The joys of an aged Grosset Watervale Riesling

The Owl is clearly not going to be a famous still life photographer but he can tell you that the 2000 Grosset Watervale Riesling went down well with lunch. That wonderful golden colour and those distinctive flavours that come with age. And made all the better by the company it kept.
It brought back memories to my punting mate Murray Dwyer and me of the old Alsace riesling the sommelier at the three Michelin star restaurant in Provence many years ago feared we would not understand and maybe would refuse to pay for. We enjoyed the age then and did again today with our other regular monthly luncheon companion Robbie Waterhouse picking up the bill being something of a bonus.
How pleasant to find that our regular haunt the China Tea Club at Lyneham could produce such a gem. No wonder we faithfully keep coming back.
