A Margaret River Chardonnay that passed the bottle test with ease

It pays to revisit wines sometimes. Years ago I tried a Hamelin Bay Chardonnay and somewhat cavalierly dismissed it into the "okay but" category. After my recent romance with the wines of Tumbarumba (here and here) I ventured tonight to the 2016 Five Ashes Vineyard Margaret River Chardonnay and am pleased that I did. It passed my bottle test with ease. A sound and very drinkable wine.
That Tanunda's one and only bottle shop deemed it one of the limited range of Western Australian whites worth stocking I took as a recommendation in itself. Being a retailer in a wine maker's town means you have to select carefully.
At around the $25 a bottle mark it came in as an 87 out of 100 on my quality/value scale.
